The studio project is finally over...

I just thought the blog wasn't complete without an ending so here I am. Posting a conclusion to the hellish 3 week experience.

Yesterday was presentation day. The whole group skipped lunch to prepare what to say(we don't have the appetite to eat too). Everyone was very nervous and quite jumpy before the presentation.

Ahmad didn't sleep the night before, while I unwillingly fell asleep at the computer for 3 hours before waking up at 5am to continue helping Ahmad with some finishing details.

Now that the studio project has ended. We would like to thank Mr Choong and Ms Ng and the other lecturers for their help and guidance.

We will be putting in our best to improve the application during the holidays!

One day down and time is running out. So far we've done compiling, sound audio, night effects and importantly, major changes in introduction page. Other than that, we noticed there was a mistake in packaging so reprint was executed. Overall, we are almost done. Everyone is so dead tired but we can make it through.

stayed till 8pm today to try to settle thigns off. Fadzli took over the job of printing story boards , and stuff.

today we got a very long day. Air con is crazy. 1 day cold the other hot. when it is very cold in the room and outside weather is so hot it make me sick. and the school got a very big mosquito in the gents ! deware of dengue fever.

We finished our poster and packaging today!

Fadzli and me went to Peace Centre and Sunshine Plaza to print our Poster as soon as Ahmad finished it. Yong Chen was working on the Introduction scene for our application with Fadzli earlier in the morning while I was doing Web.

(Tip of the day)
For other groups who are going to print their A2 Posters, I recommend going to Master Colour at Peace Center. For $12, you get to print the A2 Poster WITH lamination and WITH the foam board mounting. The uncle there is a bit grumpy though if you go in a big group and make too much noise. =x This uncle is really professional, (unlike the auntie of the print shop where I used to work at!). I've been going to this Uncle's shop since Year 1!

I'm feeling really tired and looking towards the end of the project which has lasted 3 weeks for now. I have learnt a lot from my group members during the period though and I sincerely thank them.

2 more days to the final presentation...

Today was ok everyone had their own task to do. We are hoping to compile and finish the application by tomorrow. Tomorrow we are going to print our packaging and poster and our website is halfway done. Hoping to finish the intro of the application by tmr too. Now what's left is the project report, flowchart and storyboards.

Problems

My(fadzli) home desktop is currently screwed and i cant open some applications so i can do my work. i am very sorry guys. feel lyk ive let u guys down but yea will try my best. guess there is no other problems.

Suggestions

My birthday is coming so get me a laptop=D

26 September. (blog was delayed due to some technical difficulties.)

We're finally compiling our works. Now we're left with the viited state for the rollover.

Difficulties faced

We had to speed up our pace as there is no time to spare. The most difficult thing every group is facing now is the mentally strong to carry on the whole studio project. As the deadline is getting closer and there are actually a lot of things to do.The dffiulties for today was finding the right sound for our application.

We finalise our application by checking for any bugs and fixing them. We too spend much time discussing the look and feel of he web page.

Suggestion

The lecturers now are easily to contact them.

23 September 2005 Friday. (blog was delayed due to some technical difficulties.)

The day pass quick and fast. we had finish 1/2 of our stdudio project. All our games are almost complete as there are still some things left to refine.

Difficulties faced

we had to speed up our pace as there is no time to spare. The most difficult thing every group is facing now is the mentally strong to carry on the whole studio project. As the deadline is getting closer and there are actually a lot of things to do.

for us we had to re-looked into our planning schedule and re organise our work in order to speed thing up.

what we did today

we finish almost all the scipting for our game which is the main concern. And we are still left with the robot.

suggestion

the lecturers made more rounds into class to check our progress which i think this is a good sign for most of us. we hope tat the lectureres could continue to make rounds in the near future although we knw that the lecturers are busy with their work but we appreiciate any helps given to us. :D

Last Second Day of the week!
The deadline looms near and so is our holidays. The fact that the holidays are almost within reach now really motivates us to work harder and faster. Our aim is to finish everything early next week so we can go through beta testing.

Difficulties Faced
Today, 3 of our games were finished. There were a lot of difficulties to make it work.

Solutions
For me, I had to ask Mr Choong for advice before I could do anything. Our team sincerely thank Mr Choong for all the guidance he has provided us throughout this semester. Without him, we won't be here!

Ms Ng also helped look at my script. She was a great help too, and from her words, I actually learned a few things.

What we did today
Everyone was busy scripting the whole day today. I'm finishing my final page contribution to the project and so are the others.

Suggestions
I feel that supervisors, if possible can visit us in the lab at least every 2 hours.

Day 8....

Today we did a presentation on our application mockup.Well, we're still far from finish. Altough the mockup may look a bit buggy, hard effort and patience are consume during its production.

Difficulties...

Still scripting problem. We wanted to ask some "things" from our supervisor but they seem to be unavailable and MIA from class. Will try again tommorrow.

Solution...

After some time trying to solve the timer script we move on with other things. The timer script will be put on hold

Suggestion of the day...

Hmmm... More supervisors in class.

Day 7....

There is not much to blog about today except we are basically done with graphics..maybe juz a few more minor ones..we started working on flash too..Tomorrow we have to present our main page and 2 sub pages. Hope we don't cock-up or something. All of us can;t wait till all of this is over.

Difficulties faced...

We were not sure how to implement pTimer into our script so we gt stuck abit at sum parts of our application and we couldn't find our revered Mr. Stephen Choong to ask about it.

Solution...

Mr. Choong finally appeared towards the end of the day and enlightened us with his infinite wisdom.

Suggestion of the day...

Make copies of Mr. Choong.

2 days before mock up presentation

we started off today by completing and enhancing on our grpahics. edwin had finished his part while yong chen and fadzli re-looked at their graphic again to make the appriopriate changes while Ahmad started scripting with the main page.

Difficulties faced

we found out that we still have the robot to complete and we had to make some last minute changes to our design and graphics. The mac's macromedia director simply sucks because only a file can be opened at 1 single time. while the windows can open more den1 file. this has made our life difficult as when we wanted to get refrence script and code our own, we had to almost memorise everything.

Soultion

we made all the last min changes and used ahmad laptop to do the coding.

we finished off all our graphics and started a little bit of scripting

What each person did today
Basically, everyone progressed at the same speed with graphics and were happy that we finally finished it today.

Solution

the school could buy the original software for our use as it is really inconvinience and slow down our speed of work. or probably let us have the pc instead.

Feeling Cowish...

Last Day of the week!
We started off today with a pretty good pace, ahmad and me completed what we needed to do, and I had started playing around with flash for my backgrounds. The rest of the group managed to finish their graphics too, by the end of the day.

Difficulties Faced
Because it's the last day of the week, we were maybe, looking too forward to the weekend ahead of us. Half of the day was literally wasted away too because we did not expect to finish all our graphics ahead of schedule. This together with the coming weekend made us reluctant to progress on with the next phase of our project, the scripting part.

Solutions
We managed to finally get back our concentration after a long break and managed to look at a script for a game in our application.

What we did today
Finished up all the graphics, and touched on a bit of the scripting.

What each person did today
Basically, everyone progressed at the same speed with graphics and were happy that we finally finished it today.

Suggestions
We feel that eating and drinking should be allowed since we will be using the lab for so long. We can clean up at the end of the day, with the ICs making sure and checking. The Technician Officer was not very helpful since he knows nothing about Mac computers it seems and by catching people with food in the class, he actually disrupted our flow of work.

Our Birdie

Day 4
We continued on doing each of our own graphics as we were assigned to. The day started off with quite a good momentum but we slowed down as the day went by. 9am-6pm each day is pretty long and taxing for us after all but we believe that we can finish our graphics on schedule which is by the end of this week.
Difficulties Faced
We had a problem deciding on where and how to intergrate the volume slider to each of our sub-pages because of the restriction we were given. Plus we were actually not really sure about the requirements such as no menu and everything has to be intergrated into the environtment.

Another problem is that we have not really decided on our navigation through the sub-pages.

Last problem would be the lecturers were not there when we need them and when they are, we don't need them.

Solutions
After awhile we decided to look for one of the lecturers and lucky for us we bumped into Mr. Choong. He answered our questions clearly and we know what to do after consulting him. We also decided on our navigation through the sub-pages. so all that is left now is to complete our graphics by end of this week. Hopefully.

Suggestion
Vote Mr. Stephen Choong for president!

Day 3
The day started off with class presentation, luckily we are the first one to go. Although we have the upperhand of starting first, we still faces questions that we had difficulties to answer. After all the hard work of answering and proposing our idea, we were happy that the supervisors raise up the green flag.

Difficulties Faced
The difficulties we face today was, keeping ourselves awake. Since the presentation was like presenting to the supervisors instead to all of the class, we had difficulties putting our attention to other teams. Next was the pace we did today. Since we start off the with poor momentum, we did'nt do much today except editing our images after receiving those comments earlier on.

Solution found,
We drank coffee and bought in sweets to keep ourselves awake.

What We Did Today
We presented to the class our ideas.
We have chosen the concept to work on and improves them base on the contructive comment given.

What Each Person Did Today
Most of us today did graphics and generating ideas on improvement. We're looking forward for the scripting part where most of us find it challenging.

Suggestion we like to bring up.
At least have a "kind" and a good listener lecturer/supervisor to be in the class, as most of the students have doubt, they had no one to turn to.

Day 2 13 september 2005
The First thing we did when we come into class is to show our sketch up island to our team leader and decide on what to improve on and standardise on our graphic. After settling everything, we start to do a digital mock up so as to piece the island up together and come out the main page.

Difficulties faced

We realise that we only had come out with only 1 concept but we need 2. Beacuse there are so many message passing across and the message from the lecturers were unclear. So we have to come out with another interesting idea to make up our 2nd concept.

Another difficulties we faced is that we have some problem trying to think of wad we knw and wad we can do for our applications. And basically our application will be script intensive.

The most importnat thing is that we had to prepare for our presentation tomorrow and we had to prepare a lot of things in school before 6pm because we could not print our work outside as most of the printing shop will be closed and by6pm the school printing shop will be closed to. The time is tight but we still have to do it.

Drained

We had crack our brain and put our full concentration for the whole day as we had to constantly come out with a lot of ideas. And we had been staying in sch and sitting on our chair for like almost 12 hours straight. (we can cook eggs on it !!) we even stayed back after 6pm to do our work. our back is tired our brain is dried up. we need a break !

Day 1
The day started almost fine, earlier yesterday, our group had met up and come up with a concept we were pretty confident of. We were excited to implement it today having typed the proposal and even did the flow chart for it. But all that was gone to waste minutes later after the lecturers reviewed our concept.

Difficulties Faced
We first presented our concept to Mr Tan Chin Koon and Ms Ng. Our presentation was interrupted by a phone call to Mr Tan. Soon after Mr Eric Tan replaced Mr Tan to listen to our concept. Our concept apparently was totally wrong. This gave us a big blow because we believed we followed what the brief mentioned but what the lecturers wanted seems to be different from the brief altogether.

Therefore, after the presentation, the group spent a lot of time trying to come up with a new concept. We even talked during lunch and went to the library to find new ideas. But it seems like almost everything was going to be wrong if that is what the lecturer wanted.

Solution Found
Luckily for us, after the break, we managed to speak to Mr Stephen Choong about our concept. We got a clearer idea then what the lectuers want us to do through his constructive comments and helpful insight. Things were looking up again for us. The new concept we thought of during the break was also helpful as we will be using it in conjunction with our original concept.

What We Did Today
Today, we planned out the Proposal for the application, a draft flowchart, and a very prelimnary sketch of our main page. We then divided the tasks accordingly.

What Each Person Did Today
Basically everyone contributed to the idea generation process and sketches and also the draft content that we will have.
